Yet Another Amazon Cloud Outage

Along with yesterday’s pounding of the market (which thankfully somewhat recovered today), the Amazon cloud took another hit, according to PCMag and Computer Reseller News, among others.

Apparently between 9p and 11p Monday night, Amazon had connectivity issues with its Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2) out of its Northern Virginia data center, its east coast hub.  Amazon’s Relational Database Service (RDS) also suffered connectivity issues between Amazon RDS database instances and the Internet. The outages brought down NetFlix, Reddit and FourSquare, with the latter two likely still reeling from the extended April mishap. I am surprised to see Netflix listed as they had apparently paid the bucks for a super-redundant architecture in the EC2 cloud.
