A SOW by any other name?

Various methodologies may use differing nomenclature, such as…

  • scope of work
  • charter, work order
  • work definition
  • conditions of satisfaction
  • service agreement
  • deliverables
  • proposal

Even the project management bible, the PMBOK, has its own take on the moniker.

But the statement of work (SOW) seems to be the most common in my experience and that’s how this IT manager will refer to it. And of course, the name is not as important as the function.
