It’s all over: Oracle has completed its acquisition of Sun. CNet reported that Sun founder Scott McNealey said “My hat is off to one of the greatest capitalists I have ever met, Larry Ellison …To be honest, this is not a note this founder wants to write. Sun, in my mind, should have been the great and surviving consolidator. But I love the market economy and capitalism more than I love my company.”
Many years ago, I would have thought Sun would have been a survivor too. However, as a big Sun customer in the middle part of the last decade, I saw some arrogance and ostrich head-in-the-sand behavior that foretold of an event like this. It’s a shame, because I always liked the products, but it was bound to happen.
