Last call for gTLDs…

Tomorrow is the final day to plunk down 185K and get your own top level domain (TLD) name.

We wrote about this back in January.when they went on sale. ICANN had originally said they would stop taking applications last Friday but delayed due to a technical issue.

In addition to the general controversy this created, it also invoked the ire of Uncle Sam. The WSJ reported that last month, the National Telecommunications and Information Administration declined to renew ICANN’s contract to run the Internet Assigned Numbers Authority, which is the foundation of the internet’s numbering system,  even though ICANN was the only applicant. The contract has been temporarily renewed until September.
