Exchange in the Cloud?

Moving Exchange into the Cloud is almost a good deal, especially if you are also having to purchase new hardware. MS has a spreadsheet that allows you to calculate a decent comparison analysis to keeping in-house vs. outsourcing with them. It offers an easy solution for my storage problem, spam, and archiving (see my post (“The email archiving headache“).

The deal breaker isĀ  Blackberry services and lack of AD integration; i.e., hosted Blackberry is expensive and there is no seamless AD connectivity between your forest and your email servers in the cloud. I believe these are only temporary hurdles though, as free ActiveSync will become the standard for mobile email and new modules are in development to address the AD problem. Let’s face it, if the price is right or even the same, who wouldn’t want to remove the headache of email support?
