While Steve Jobs’ death certainly has captured the media and deservedly so, we also lost Dennis Ritchie this week. Dennis was co-developer of the Unix operating system and the architect of the C programming language in the late 1960s and early ’70s at Bell Labs. To Ritchie, “UNIX is basically a simple operating system, but you have to be a genius to understand the simplicity”.
Ritchie is pictured (center) below receiving the National Medal of Technology from President Clinton in 1999. His Unix co-developer, Ken Thompson, is next to him.
