Wow,now there’s two names you haven’t heard in a whale of a long time!
From Novell’s website today, “Novell Agrees to be Acquired by Attachmate Corporation“. It says it is a $2.2B deal. They are also selling “certain intellectual property assets” to CPTN Holdings LLC, a consortium of technology companies organized by Microsoft Corporation, for $450M.
I didn’t even know Attachmate was still around. I mean, it’s not like there’s a big market for 3270 emulation nowadays. Appears Attachmate is really an investment group, Francisco Partners, Golden Gate Capital and Thoma Bravo. And they own NetIQ as well.
Back when I got into this business, both they, and of course, Novell, were titans. It’s the end of an era, although arguably Novell died a long time ago.
